10 Good Reasons Why You Should be Writing a Newsletter

“Who has the time for that”, replied an industry colleague when I asked if he sent out a regular e-newsletter. “Who can’t not make the time” I responded. “It’s one of the lowest cost, highest return on investments you can make”.

“Give me one good reason I should bother” he challenged. “I just did”, I said “And I’ll e-mail you nine more” So I did.. And here’s my Top Ten Reasons why you should bother too!

1. To cement your relationship with existing customers and build relationships with prospects who have expressed an interest in your product or services.

2. Maintaining your “share of mind” through regular and consistent communication – today’s newsletter reader could well be tomorrows customer.

3. To promote your products or services or provide timely offers, promotional incentives and tracking reader response and reaction.

4. To drive traffic to (or back to) your website where your reader can take the time to browse through your entire proposition.

5. To reinforce and enhance the reality or perception of you being an industry leader and authority in your area of expertise.

6. Gaining a higher response to your offers from an “opt in” and therefore more qualified and receptive audience.

7. Leveraging other media and marketing strategies.

8. Sharing knowledge, providing information and valuable insights to help readers build their own business.

9. To repurpose newsletter content you’ve developed and expand it into an article, post it to your own website or blog, e-mail it to those not on your mailing list

10. An e-newsletter is cost effective, saves trees, cost nothing to mail and will be your lowest ongoing marketing cost providing a terrific return on investment.

E-mail newsletters are much easier to produce and cheaper than traditional printed direct mail.  You don’t have to deal with printing or postage and you can include links directly to other components of your web presence.

An email newsletter can be a fairly simple but effective addition to your overall marketing mix and web presence.  It can help you not only connect with customers, prospects and those in your network but also maintain these relationships and keep your dealership at the top of people’s minds, thus increasing the likelihood they’ll continue to turn to you long into the future.

I am always looking for ways to make dealers more profitable and this is a great example of how to achieve it.  An E-Newsletter is cheap and it not only allows you to showcase your product, but also your brand.  This gives you the opportunity to cut back on the traditional expensive modes of advertising and put more money to the bottom line.
